Yucca is an erect shrub with a robust stem, initially simple and then slightly branched. It has terminal tufts of strictly lanceolate, rigid and curved leaves, up to 60cm long, of a blue-green colour that becomes dark green, with entire to slightly toothed margins. From late summer to autumn, it produces erect panicles up to 2.5m with white, reclining and bell-shaped flowers, sometimes tinged with purple, 5cm long. Native to the coastal areas of the south-eastern United States, it has been introduced as an ornamental plant in numerous European countries where it has naturalised.
