This deciduous shrub is slender, with green branches ranging from arching to drooping. The opposite, pinnate, dark green leaves are composed of three oval-oblong leaflets, up to 3cm long. In winter and early spring, before the leaves appear, it produces solitary, flat, bright yellow flowers, 1-2cm long, which bloom in the axils of the leaves.
