The Rizzardi family, originally from Toscolano Maderno, moved to Verona and became one of the wealthiest members of the city’s merchant class. At the end of the 1500s, the family expanded its property in the valley surrounding the town of Negrar, which was particularly desirable due to its excellent climate and proximity to the city centre.
Being a selected area for profitable agriculture such as grapes and olives, the Negrar area attracted wealthy merchants from Verona looking for an activity different from the more commercial types.
In 1649, Count Carlo Rizzardi purchased the estate in the Valpolicella area, which he later expanded with other local properties.
In 1913, the marriage of Carlo Rizzardi and Giuseppina Guerrieri, whose family had developed a winemaking and olive growing activity in the inland areas of Bardolino, led to the merger of two important winemaking estates and the creation of the Guerrieri Rizzardi agricultural company.
